Wellness Care Vs. Standard Medical Care

admin Chiropractic

The wellness approach is to look for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption and make whatever interventions and lifestyle adjustments that would optimize the conditions for normal function

The main difference between the scope of practice for wellness care and that of standard medical care is the distinguished ability to turn on the natural healing ability of the body through holistic measures. Wellness care does not add something to the body’s intricate system; instead, it  removes properties or toxins that may interfere or hinder optimal function. Wellness care entrusts that the body with self healing properties, without the contribution of external factors of interference. Standard medical care, on the other hand, seeks to treat a symptom by adding something from the outside – a medication, a surgery or procedure.

Inside Out vs. Outside In

If a patient has high blood pressure, a standard medical approach would be to prescribe a drug that decreases blood pressure, providing the patient with specified protocols for ingesting the medication. This may serve to decrease the blood pressure with a temporary solution, but ignores the prime underlying cause of the elevated blood pressure, which essentially elevates an increased risk of side effects, complicating the recovery of the individual. Although the elevated blood pressure may be caused from a lack of nutrients, faltering of the nerve system or a manifestation of stress, the medication would still prove to be effective for decreasing the blood pressure; however,  may prove to be ineffective for the long term solution of high blood pressure.

The Wellness Approach

Wellness is a state of optimal conditions for primary function of all areas of the body, physically and mentally. The wellness approach seeks the underlying cause of any disturbance or disruption within the body (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time) and optimizes interactive interventions and lifestyle adjustments, optimizing the conditions for normal function. This type of environment encourages natural healing, minimizing the necessity for invasive treatment, which should be administered only as an imperative requirement. When the body is functioning properly, healing proves to be more effective, regardless of the condition. When the body heals accordingly and maintains itself in optimal circumstances, another level of health is achieved beyond “asymptomatic” or “pain-free”, which reveals an open-ended opportunity for vitality, vibrant health, and an enhanced experience of longevity. This remains to be substantial for mental and emotional health, as well as physical health. While some individuals may suffer from psychological disorders, creating an atmosphere of mental and emotional wellness will address a majority of concerns with the functionality of the body.
